Testosterone’s Job : Lots of work!

Testosterone has a huge job and it has alot of work to do. From maintaining sperm production , libido , muscle and bone mass to keeping you from being depressed , we can all agree it plays a big role in male health. This is no laughing matter , according to Abraham Harvey Kryger, M.D., low testosterone can increase your risk of heart disease , prostate cancer , even alzheimer’s disease.

The current best measure of Testosterone is the levels of bio available testosterone in your system. Free testosterone levels below 70 nanograms per deciliter is considered abnormal. At that point , doctors may recommend hormone replacement therapy such as patches and gels , supplements and injections all depending on your status and other factors.

The US government bans over the counter steroid supplements with the exception for DHEA (dehydroepiandrosterone), which the body converts into testosterone. Although prohormones are banned , a variety of natural supplements and herbs are available on the market which are popular with atheletes. One popular supplement is ZMA , the combination formula of zinc, magnesium, and vitamin [B.sub.6]. Researchers have suggested it increased the endurance and strength of football players and other atheletes.

According to a study by the journal of strength and conditioning research , 30 minutes of treadmill running increased testosterone by twenty seven percent , with stabilizing normal levels after 30 minutes after the run. It takes the proper diet , nutrition and exercise to keep high testosterone levels and body builders cannot stress enough of it.
